About Me
Haocheng Liu is an indie game developer making games that weave emotional experiences into innovative gameplay.
Hao’s journey began as a CS student studying at Zhejiang University in China, where lines of code were once the only way he expressed himself. It wasn’t until he started working on side game projects that he discovered a powerful medium for sharing his emotions—joy, surprise, embarrassment, regret, and other feelings he had never talked about with others. By creating evocative gameplay moments through game mechanics and code scripts, he found a way to connect with others on a deeper level.
Driven by this discovery, Hao moved to LA to pursue an MFA in Interactive Media at USC School of Cinematic Arts. There, he experimented with interactions in games and made experiences that evoke complex feelings and nuanced emotions far beyond the “cool and fun” typically associated with video games.
Leveraging his technical background, Hao integrated cutting-edge technology into his game design and narratives, pushing the boundaries of how games tell stories and build empathy. His collaborations with designers, artists, and storytellers have led to multiple successful releases on Steam, receiving overwhelmingly positive reviews from players. His work has also been recognized by USC Games Expo and Made with Unity.
