Each game prototype below was made in one week and was based on specific design prompts.


Game Feel

  • Novel and fun core mechanic as a toy

  • Juicy audiovisual effects (screen shake, screen flash) on hit/kill/other interactions

  • Later expanded to a full game Swingggggg

Theming

  • PVP infection “tug of war”

  • Abstract zombie hordes simulation implemented by a modifed Boids algorithm

  • Shared-screen 2 players control on 2 controllers

Progress

  • Game progress integrated into the arena mechanics

  • Funny human voice-over SFX creating a hilarious party game vibe

  • Lava effect by Unity Shader Graph

Feedback

  • Intense player experience from an ever-changing timescale mechanic

  • Well-balanced difficulty curves controlled by feedback loops system

Discretization

  • Discrete input & continuous output

  • Turned the classic snake game into a PvP competitive game

  • Juiciness of game feel from various visual effect feedback

Randomness

  • Introduced randomness to the classic “Rock-Paper-Scissor” fighting game mechanics.

  • Up & down player experience from the shifting balance between players’ abilities

Affordance

  • Without words, symbols, or instructions

  • One-button controls

  • Sequencing design for progressively learning new mechanics
